Active Broadband Networks releases Open Source Subscriber Service Management Platform Boston, MA April 24, 2007 – Active Broadband Networks, a pioneering developer of Subscriber Service Management Systems based upon the emerging IPDR standards, announced the Open Source release of the Active Resource Manager. In conjunction with this release, Active Broadband Networks will begin to provide commercial support services for operators deploying the Active Resource Manager and other Open Source Operational Support Systems

The Active Resource Manager collects, stores and processes IPDR records to provide subscriber service management. The Open Source release includes collectors, storage system and applications that process and present information. In addition to displaying subscriber based network service usage, the system includes a usage prediction application valuable in identifying growth trends and planning capacity additions, an automated system for identifying top-talkers by service tier and a service tier based subscriber quota management system.
Operational Support and other software systems used to manage and control broadband networks are ideally suited for Open Source licensing. Systems deployed by broadband operators often consist of many different commercially licensed components connected using vendor specific Application Programming Interfaces. This results in a complex and unique system environment that becomes increasingly difficult and expense to maintain. By releasing the Active Resource Manager as Open Source our customers, either alone or with our assistance, can begin to remove the cost and complexity caused by proprietary systems.
